Job Description

The Baler Operator makes-ready, operates, and cleans the baler machine to compress and bind scrap paper under the direction of the Department Supervisor. The Baler Operator is responsible for adhering to company directives, production schedules, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations established by the company and administered by the Department Supervisor. The Baler Operator is responsible for following quality control procedures, safety procedures, and all other SOPs (standard operating procedures) for the Department. The Baler Operator may perform other related tasks as requested by Department Supervisor. The Baler Operator is required to participate in any vocational education/training both internally or externally that is deemed necessary by the management to perform the essential functions of your job or to personally achieve your career goals within the company.
Essential Functions:
1. Is briefed by the Department Supervisor on the daily meeting of production objectives for scheduling jobs, addressing quality issues, workforce issues or training, and scheduled routine maintenance/repairs.
2. Responsible for attending any training initiated by the Supervisor, Management, Safety Coordinator, and/or HR. This includes Synchronous Flow Training and all Food Product Safety training and adherence, including HACCP and pre-requisites if applicable (GMPs SOP, Make-Ready Checklist, CCPs, Allergen Awareness, Food Defense, and contaminants such as wood, metal, and glass.)
3. Responsible for housekeeping in your assigned production area(s) for your assigned shift.
4. Assist the Department Supervisor to maintain quality control standards for paper compressed and bound on your machine according to the SOPs of the company. Only a similar grade of scrap paper could result in a downgrading of the value of the bale of scrap to be sold.
5. Is responsible for the make-ready, operation, routine maintenance, and cleaning of the baler machine according to the SOPs of the company.
6. Attend the die-cutting machine at the delivery end to retrieve the filled waste buggy directly to the baler; or filled gaylords of SBS directly to a trailer using a forklift.
7. Place scrap paper from the waste buggy on the belt of the baling machine to go into compression chamber.
8. Thread tie wire around bale to band together and move to storage.

2. Operation Monitoring The ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
3. Controlling Machines and Processes The ability to use either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines, equipment, or processes
4. Critical Thinking The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
5. Equipment Maintenance The ability to perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
6. Reading Comprehension The ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
7. Troubleshooting The ability to determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it.
